Built 1891-1894 by Otto Fielitz for the city of Flensburg, replacing a previous theatre (built 1795, demolished 1883). Opened 23 Sep 1894 with Schiller's Wilhelm Tell. 1924 extension by an administrative wing and stagehouse modernization. 1933-1936 foyers and auditorium rebuildings. In the 1930s/1940s also known as Grenzlandtheater. 1986 façade renovation. 537 seats. One of the homes of the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landestheater opera, drama, and ballet companies. (English)
