Fa parte dei « teatri di tradizio­ne » e come tale ospita annualmen­te un’importante stagione lirica, oltre a spettacoli vari, di prosa e di rivista, e proiezioni cinematogra­fiche. Ha una capienza di 3.000 po­sti circa ed appartiene ad una so­cietà che ha sede nei locali annessi al ridotto. (Italian)

Built 1898-1903 by Onofrio Petruzzelli and Antonio Petruzzelli. Opened 14 February 1903 with Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots. Destroyed by a fire (whose cause has remained uncertain) on 27 October 1991. Subsequently restored. Re-opened 4 Oct 2009 with Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Originally 3500 seats, now 1480 seats (de-facto only 1250 seats are in use). (English)
