Opened as Éden-Théâtre in the early 1880s. 1890 renamed Grand-Théâtre. Closed ca. 1893. 1893 the Comédie Parisienne was opened in one of the foyers of the Éden. 1896 rebuilt by Paul Fouquiau (with the entrance moved from Rue Boudreau to its current site). Re-opened 1896 as Théâtre de l'Athénée. Later renamed Théatre de l'Athénée-Louis-Jouvet in honour of the French actor and theatre director, Louis Jouvet (1887-1951), director of the Athénée from 1934 to 1951. Currently known as Athénée - Théâtre Louis-Jouvet. (English)
