Built 1907-1908 as Stadttheater by Bernhard Sehring for the city of Cottbus. Opened 1 Oct 1908 with a gala performance of Schiller's Wallensteins Lager and a public performance of Lessing's Minna von Barnhelm. 1910-1912 extension by a functional tract. 1982-1987 major exterior and interior restoration. 1992 renamed Staatstheater. Ca. 680 seats. Used for opera and drama performances by the resident companies. (English)
