Built by Alexandre Maistrasse. Opened 27 March 1938 as Centre de loisirs Albert-Thomas, named after the French politician, Albert Thomas (1878-1932). From 1951 home to actor and theatre director Jean Vilar's company Théâtre national populaire. 1971 renamed in honour of Jean Vilar (1912-1971). 1986-1990 rebuilding and renovations by Valeanu. 2019-2020 rebuilding and renovations.
