The Lviv Opera was opened on October 4, 1900. It was originally called the City Theater (Teatr Miejski) and later the Grand Theatre (Teatr Wielki) until it was renamed in 1939 by the Soviet occupiers for The Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. (English)

The hydraulic mechanization of the stage was built by the Polish railway workshop company in Sanok. Still heritage stage elevator system? In 1970s stage machinery was remodelled, which allowed installing 4 plunger lifts on the stage, for placing stage sets on various levels. (English)
