Fist opened 1814 as a comedy theatre, from 1820 as Hof van Holland. 1835 converted into a hotel. 1838-1939 major rebuilding, incorporating a neighboring building. Theatre re-opened 30 Dec 1839. 1868 major interior rebuilding, creating the Italian-style theatre hall that is still in use (as Hemminkzaal). From 1957 operated as a municipal theatre. Major exterior rebuilding with a modernist facade. Major renovations in the 1980s, removing the modernist facade. 2006 rebuilding. The complex contains three halls (459 seats, 219 seats and 75 seats). (English)
