Built 1931-1933 by Guido Conti. Opened 4 May 1933 as Teatro di Littorio (after the Fascist symbol) with Giuseppe Verdi's opera Rigoletto and Umberto Giordano's opera Andrea Chenier. Later renamed Teatro Comunale. 2001 renamed Teatro Comunale Maria Caniglia in honour of the Italian opera singer, Maria Caniglia (1905-1979). Originally 1200 seats, later reduced to 706 seats.
