La sua prima costruzione risale al 1832. Successivamente più volte modificato, era stato completamen­te ricostruito dall’ingegner Nicolò Bruno nel 1871. Distrutto dai bombardamenti nel dicembre 1942, è stato ricostruito nel 1955 dall’architetto Datta. Ha una capienza di 1.050 posti ed è oggi la principale ribalta di pro­sa genovese. Il Teatro Stabile di Genova lo usa per i suoi spettacoli più impox’tanti. (Italian)
