Built 1935-1939 for the Sociedade Dramático Musical Carlos Gomes (formerly Sociedade Teatral Frohsinn). Named in honour of the Brazilian opera composer, Carlos Gomes (1836-1896). Opened 1 July 1939 with Weber's Preziosa. 1968 addition of a smaller stage. In the 1990s, main stage restored and renamed Auditório Heinz Geyer in honour of the theatre's first musical director. 1996-1996 small stage rebuilt and renamed Auditório Willy Sievert. (English)
