Built 1809 as Planter's Hotel (on the site of the first building in the Thirteen Colonies designed for use as a theatre; opened 12 Feb 1736; site of the first opera performance in America; probably destroyed by fire in 1740). 1935 converted into a theatre. 2007-2010 major restorations. (English)
