Built 1897 by Frank Matcham. Opened 22 Dec 1897 as Metropolitan Theatre of Varieties. Ca. 1700 seats (+ 294 standing). Interior decoration by James M. Boekbinder. Later renamed Metropolitan Theatre and Metropolitan Music Hall. Demolished 1963 in favour of road widening (which never happened). Later, a police station was built on the site. (English)
