Originally built 1790 as a grist mill, The New Hope Mills, by Benjamin Parry. Bought 1930 by a group of theatre lovers, including the playwright Moss Hart. 1938-1939 converted into a theatre. Opened 1 July 1939 as Bucks County Playhouse with Benn Levy's Springtime for Henry. Originally mainly used for drama theatre performances, including pre-Broadway premieres. 1955 damaged by a flood, subsequently repaired. Currently mainly used for musical performances. Home to an annual Secondary School Drama Festival. (English)
