Built 1897 by Charles John Phipps for Beerbohm Tree, replacing the former Her Majesty's Theatre (opened 1791), while preserving only the 1818 Royal Opera Arcade at the rear. Originally used as a drama theatre. 1901 renamed His Majesty's. From 1916, the Oscar Asche show Chu Chin Chow ran for 2238 performances. 1953 renamed Her Majesty's Theatre. 1961 redecoration. 1990-1993 renovation and improvements by H. L. M. and C. G. Twelves. Currently used for large-scale musical performances (e. g. the A. L. Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera, running for over 17 years). 2023 renamed His Majesty's Theatre. 1210 seats. (English)
