Built 1899 by Francis Jourdain as Athénée-Saint-Germain. 1913 re-opened as Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier, named after the street. Closed 1917-1920, while the company played at the Garrick Theatre in New York City. 1920 re-opened. 1924 converted into an avant-garde cinema. Closed 1938. Re-opened 1944. Closed 1970. 1986 bought by the French state. Since 1993 used by the Comédie-Française drama company. (English)
