Opened 17 May 1862 as an open-air theatre named Politeama Fiorentino Vittorio Emanuele (6000 seats). 1882 rebuilding, addition of a roof. 1930 renamed Teatro Comunale. 1958-1961 renovations. Re-opened 1961 (2000 seats). Later renamed Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Closed 2014. Demolished 2021. (English)
