The Historical Stage Lighting Collective (HSLC) was started early in 2023 by several people who share a range of enjoyable experiences of using pre-LED stage lighting. We have established a collection of historic lighting based in Suffolk. Unlike a conventional museum, this is very much a hands-on clubroom, where techniques of the past can be tried, discussed and documented. There is a library, a literature collection and a model theatre. The space has a studio feel which will lend itself to making Colour Music; a technique of telling the story of a piece of music through sequential lighting, in an appropriate setting. The HSLC celebrates the old kit by rigging it, lighting it up, and operating it, considering it in the context of its history, its contemporaries and the shows associated with it, thus building up a collection that will be organised and recognised for what it does. It is important to preserve this equipment for future generations, and the HSLC is fully committed to ensuring that it knows where it's headed beyond it's current home in Suffolk. (English)
