The cultural centre established in 2000 in Elizabeth Square, works as a meeting place for the city. Since its construction it is one of the most popular points of the city. The idea of the Elizabeth Square Park and Cultural Centre was to create a self-sustaining "urban agora" according to the words of the designers.Incised stepped terraces were created in the “Hole” which provides sitting places to the audiences. This is a multi-cultural venue which in the surface works as park and cultural communal place, and under the surface it works as contemporary art centre and place of entertainment as well. The whole pit and the side slopes and the terraces were covered with limestone sheets. The main hall under the surface receives lights through the bottom of a glass basin. Inside raw concrete walls are dominating. The hall is used for several entertainments, operated by Gödör Club Cultural Association, and the buffet and the plumbing are also situated here. (English)
