E’ un capace teatro storico la cui costruzione risale al triennio 1799- 1801. Ne furono architetti Antonio Selva per l’interno e Matteo Pertsch per la facciata. Più volte restaurato e rinnovato, ha una capienza di 2.000 posti circa. Appartiene al Comune dal 1861 ed è oggi la sede dell’omonimo Ente Autonomo che vi organizza regolari stagioni liriche e concertisti- che. Vi è annesso un museo teatrale. (Italian)

Built 1798-1801 as Teatro Nuovo by Giovanni Antonio Selva and Matthäus Pertsch. 1821 renamed Teatro Grande. On 29 Jan 1901 renamed in honour of the Italian opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). Also known as Teatro lirico Giuseppe Verdi. 1990-1995 major renovations. Used for opera performances and for an annual summer operetta festival. (English)
