Built 1862 as Landsdown Arms Music Hall at the rear of the pub, Landsdown Arms. Later renamed Sam Collins' Music Hall. 1885 entrance and hall rebuilding by Edward Clarke. 1897 new auditorium by E. A. E. Woodrow; renamed Collins' Theatre of Varieties. 1908 repair works after a fire, auditorium alterations (six circle boxes removed). In 1908 and during World War I also known as Islington Hippodrome. 1911 renovations works by Lovegrove and Papworth. 1931 installation of new heating and ventilation. Destroyed by a fire in 1958. Subsequently restoration of the façade, rebuilding for use as a bookshop. (English)
