Concert hall, built 1960-1963 by Hans Scharoun as home to the Berliner Philharmoniker. Opened 15 Oct 1963 with a concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. 1975 installation of a sinkable orchestra stage by Edgard Wisniewski. 1978-1982 renovation and installation of exterior aluminum decoration by Edgar Wisniewski. Main auditorium: 2440 seats around a central stage. 1984-1987 extension by a second concert hall, Kammermusiksaal, by Edgard Wisniewski after drafts by Hans Scharoun. Opened 28 Oct 1987. 1192 seats around a central stage. 1979-1984 extension by a musicologist institute (Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung, opened 1983) and a museum of musical instruments (Musikinstrumenten-Museum, opened 1984) by Edgard Wisniewski after Scharoun.
