Built 1811-1813 by John Foulston and George Wightwick, as part of a civic centre The Royal Hotel, Assembly Rooms, and Theatre comprising a club, dining-room, assembly hall, hotel, and stables, all built around a courtyard and entered through a portico. The theatre occupied the right-hand wing. 1200 seats. Demolished in 1937 in favour of a cinema building (Reel Cinema). (English)
