Built 1907 in the courtyard of the Palazzo Giordani, replacing the wooden Anfiteatro del Pincio. Opened 13 Apr 1907 as Teatro Olimpia. 1928 rebuilding by Giulio Ulisse Arata. Re-opened as Teatro Verdi in honour of the Italian opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). 1500 seats. Destroyed by bombs on 25 Sep 1943. [In 1959, the Cinema Capitol was opened on the site.] (English)
