Built 1895 by converting manor stables of the Rombergscher Hof. Opened 1895 as Lortzing-Theater, named in honour of the German composer, Albert Lortzing (1801-1851). 1900 extension by the Westerholtscher Hof (another manor). Since 1906 municipal theatre, also known as Städtisches Lortzing-Theater, Stadttheater or Theater der Stadt Münster. Destroyed by bombs in 1941. Some ruined walls of the theatre were incorporated in the new Stadttheater built on the site in 1954-1956. (English)
