    Chariot system
    1641 (English)
In 1641 Giacomo Torellis invented the chariot system, to quickly change scenes on stage. Wheeled chariots under the stage run on tracks, carrying scenic flats which project through slots in the stage. The flats can be moved from the wings onto the stage and off again quickly, and without any visible mechanism.
