Built 1857 by W. J. Stent as Athenaeum, a literary institute. 1879 rebuilding by T. H. Wyatt. Ca. 1912 lecture room converted into a cinema and re-opened as Picture Palace. Also used for live theatre. Closed in the 1950s. Re-opened 1969 as Athenaeum Centre, an arts centre showing plays, concerts and films. 1986 renamed West Wiltshire Arts Centre. Closed 1997. 2000 reopened as The Athenaeum Centre for the Community. (English)
