The construction of a new Theatre Royal in Shakespeare Square began in 1768 and it opened in December 1769. The Theatre Royal in Shakespeare Square in Edinburgh was located opposite Register House. It was demolished to make way for the former General Post Office of 1861–5, now Waverleygate. (English)
